Abstract
The effect of ultrasonic treatment on the properties of damping polymer composite materials based on a silicone matrix modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was investigated. The samples were prepared by mechanical mixing only and by mechanical mixing with an additional ultrasonic treatment stage during preparation of the filled composition. The MWCNT content in the samples was 0.10, 0.30 and 0.50 wt.%. The sample mass was determined using analytical balances, density was measured by hydrostatic weighing, and viscoelastic properties were evaluated by dynamic mechanical analysis using E′, E″ and tan δ. It was found that the proposed technology provides cylindrical samples with close mass and density values. At the studied concentrations, the effect of ultrasonic treatment on density was insignificant: the differences between the technological series were comparable with the measurement uncertainty. At the same time, dynamic mechanical analysis parameters changed more markedly and depended on the MWCNT concentration and on the preparation method of the filled system. The results show that the properties of damping composites are determined not only by the MWCNT content, but also by the features of dispersion technology and formation of the internal structure of the composite.
