Abstract
Biopreparations containing bacterial strains of the genera Bacillus, Pseudomonas, and Rhizobium, or fungi of the genus Trichoderma, enhance plant stress resistance through the production of phytohormones, as well as nutrient absorption and nitrogen fixation. The effectiveness of such preparations depends not only on the activity of the microorganisms but also on their ability to survive in various soil conditions. The aim of this study was to assess the survival rate of nitrogen-fixing bacteria included in the commercial biopreparations "Azotovit" (Beijerinckia fluminensis) and "Terrazot" (Azotobacter chroococcum) when applied to the main soil types of the Central Black Earth Region. Sod-podzolic, chestnut, gray forest, and greenhouse chernozem soils, collected in the Voronezh Region, were studied. The composition of the native microflora of the samples was preliminarily determined: no native nitrogen-fixing bacteria were detected. Incubation was carried out at 30 °C and 50% soil moisture, with samples collected after 14, 30, 60, and 90 days. It was found that the number of B. fluminensis decreased in all soil types except chestnut, where by day 90 it increased to 3.4×10⁸ CFU/g versus 1.5×10⁷ CFU/g on day 14. For A. chroococcum, an increase in numbers was noted only on chernozem — up to 2.5×10⁸ CFU/g by day 90. On greenhouse chernozem, the number of B. fluminensis reached a maximum by day 30 (2.3×10⁸ CFU/g), followed by a decrease to 1.06×10⁷ CFU/g, which is presumably due to the reaction of the environment and temperature. The obtained data indicate that the survival rate of introduced nitrogen fixers is determined by the soil type and the species of the strain, which must be taken into account when selecting a biological product for specific soil and climatic conditions.
